After verification of the awards committee of the DBN Awards for Science and Technology, Shenyang Research Institute of Chemical Industry under Sinochem Group (hereinafter referred to as “Shenyang Institute”) obtained the first prize in the 7th DBN Awards for Science and Technology for its “Fungicide Pyraoxystrobin” project, and the responsible person for the project is Liu Changling, a researcher with Shenyang Institute.

After many years of research, Liu Changling has discovered a unique pesticide innovation and research method, i.e. “the intermediate derivatization method based on bioisosteric replacement”, which has been applied to the research of methoxyacrylate compounds since 1994 and successfully brought about the birth of pyraoxystrobin in 2004. Pyraoxystrobin, with high environmental compatibility, has excellent and broad-spectrum fungicidal activity and sound efficacy against downy mildew, powdery mildew, gray mold, anthracnose, leaf spot and tomato early blight, late blight, etc. Test results indicate that pyraoxystrobin also has good synergistic effects with combinations of flumorph, chlorothalonil or other fungicides. At present, pyraoxystrobin has obtained inventive patent authorization from China, US and Japan and been allowed for provisional registration for prevention and treatment of cucumber downy mildew, which has entered the product promotion stage.
Invention and popularization of fungicide pyraoxystrobin can better prevent main diseases of crops and make contributions to the grain harvest, and at the same time play a positive role in promoting China’s future agricultural structure adjustment and technological advance in the industry.

In 1999, with the initial fund of RMB 10 million, Beijing DBN Technology Group Co., Ltd. established the DBN Awards for Science and Technology, which, after the approval of the Ministry of Science and Technology, provides awards and financial aids for front-line agricultural experts with outstanding contributions every two years. In 2011, 33 Chinese and foreign agricultural experts with outstanding contributions obtained the awards.
