On October 7th , Manulife-Sinochem Life Insurance Co., Ltd. announced a donation program in Chengdu, capital city of Sichuan Province to build special schools in the earthquake distressed region, demonstrating the kick-off of the first program dedicated to special schools in Sichuan.
The program was co-initiated by Manulife-Sinochem and Sichuan Welfare Fund for the Disabled, aimed to offer more care for the disabled students. According to the program, Manulife-Sinochem will sponsor establishment of five specials schools in Luojiang County of Deyang City, Xichong County of Nanchong City, etc. By now the construction has begun and students will be recruited in September 2009. It is estimated that there will be 400 disabled students to benefit.
Besides, there have been over 100 employees from Manulife-Sinochem Sichuan Branch having registered as volunteers to take care of the local disabled children.
As China’s first life insurance join venture held by Sinochem and Manulife Financial, Manulife-Sinochem has always adhered to its commitment to the corporate social responsibilities and was praised by its clients as “the pro-bono forerunner in the insurance industry”.
