First batch of products from world’s largest green methanol project undertaken by SWCHEM shipped

The first batch of products from the world’s largest green methanol project—the Green Methanol Project via Green Hydrogen of Goldwind Green Energy Chemicals (Hinggan League) Co., Ltd.—was officially shipped on Sept. 10. Southwest Institute of Chemical Co., Ltd. (SWCHEM), a subsidiary of Sinochem Holdings, is the EPC contractor.

The project will be developed in three phases and is expected to reach an annual green methanol production capacity of 1.45 million tonnes by the end of 2027. It has been included in the first batch of green liquid fuel technological breakthroughs and industrialization pilot projects designated by the National Energy Administration, filling a gap in China’s industrial-scale production of green methanol by integrating renewable energy with biomass.

Leveraging the abundant wind power and biomass resources of Hinggan League, the project builds an integrated green industrial chain covering wind power generation, green hydrogen production through water electrolysis, biomass gasification and green methanol synthesis. By replacing fossil feedstocks with renewable energy, it will support the green transformation of the chemical and shipping industries, and provide an engineering model for advancing China’s dual carbon goals and fostering new quality productive forces in the energy sector.
