Sinochem Holdings on July 27 officially launched the FORUS AI Foundation Model for Chemical Safety, China’s first sector-specific safety foundation model for the chemical industry. Li Fanrong, Chairman of Sinochem Holdings, Jiao Jian, Director and President of the company, and Zhang Binchuan, head of the Ministry of Emergency Management Big Data Center, attended the launch event and delivered remarks. 

Chen Chengmin, Vice President of Sinochem Holdings, presided over the event. Experts from the Ministry of Emergency Management Big Data Center were also present to witness this milestone in advancing intelligent and digital transformation for chemical industry safety management.

The launch marks a major achievement in Sinochem Holdings’ efforts to implement the decisions and arrangements of the State Council on artificial intelligence development and workplace safety, and to advance the “AI +” initiative. 

Leveraging safety management scenarios across the entire industrial chain and years of governance experience, the model has developed a dedicated dataset covering more than 10 categories of core content, including chemical industry knowledge, laws and regulations, and emergency response plans. It incorporates hundreds of thousands of professional texts and millions of training samples.

Focusing on key frontline applications, including rapid hazard reporting, intelligent work-permit auditing, smart emergency response, and interactive safety Q&A, the model can assist frontline workers in accurately identifying risks and making efficient decisions, helping transform safety management from a model that relies on manual detection of hazards to one driven by intelligent identification, coordinated response and closed-loop risk management.

At the launch event, the company also launched an AI+HSE challenge-driven innovation initiative, under which six subsidiaries were tasked with developing specialized applications through a project-based innovation mechanism. The initiative will foster a collaborative model in which the headquarters provides foundational support, affiliated enterprises drive innovation based on real-world application scenarios, and successful solutions are jointly developed and shared, creating replicable and scalable models for intelligent chemical safety applications.

The launch of the FORUSAI Foundation Model for Chemical Safety represents a major breakthrough and a new starting point for the large-scale application of artificial intelligence in safety management. It marks significant progress by Sinochem Holdings in the field of “AI+ workplace safety” and sets a new benchmark for the digital and intelligent transformation of safety management in China’s chemical industry.

Looking ahead, Sinochem Holdings will leverage its strengths in the chemical sector and its role as an industry leader to continuously improve its professional chemical safety dataset, enhance the core capabilities of its foundation model, and expand an ecosystem of intelligent agents across various application scenarios.
