On January 16, Hangzhou Water Treatment signed a contract with Algerian Energy Company (AEC) for a 300,000-ton-per-day seawater desalination project, marking that Hangzhou Water Treatment has successfully promoted China’s seawater desalination technology to the North African market.

The project is invested by AEC. And Hangzhou Water Treatment, as the project contractor, provides a full range of engineering services from design, procurement, operation and maintenance management, etc. The total construction period is 2 years, and it is expected to be commissioned in 2024. Algeria is located in the tropical desert of Northwest Africa, with less rainfall throughout the year and severe shortage of fresh water resources. Upon completion, it will provide local people with a stable supply of fresh water, and the beneficiary population is expected to reach over 2 million people, which will greatly improve the plight of local municipal and domestic water resources.
