On the evening of November 4, Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the opening ceremony of the 5th China International Import Expo (CIIE) held in Shanghai via video and delivered a speech entitled “Working Together for A Bright Future of Openness And Prosperity”. Xi Jinping pointed out that the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China emphasized that China adheres to the fundamental national policy of opening up, firmly pursues a mutually beneficial strategy of opening-up, and adheres to the right course of economic globalization. We will amplify the interplay between domestic and international markets and resources, strive to create new opportunities for the world with our own development, and contribute our share to building an open world economy.
Li Fanrong, Chairman of the Board and Secretary of the Leading Party Group of Sinochem Holdings, attended the opening ceremony of CIIE and listened to the remarks onsite. He said that President Xi Jinping’s address represents a solemn declaration of China’s unswerving insistence on opening up to the world in the new era and on the new journey, and the successful holding of CIIE over the years has also truly demonstrated “China’s determination” to open up to the world at a higher level. On the morning of the 5th, Li Fanrong visited the booths of Sinochem Holdings’ overseas subsidiaries including Elkem Silicones, KraussMaffei, Syngenta Group, Adisseo, etc., encouraging them to proactively explore the Chinese market and provide better services for their clients. During his tour, Li Fanrong also visited the partners’ booths to learn about their featured products and conduct in-depth exchanges with exhibitors. During the 5th CIIE, Sinochem Holdings takes advantage of its global layout and international operation, and renews its efforts to “buy” and “sell”. On the “buy” side, Sinochem Holdings has signed cooperation agreements with more than 50 clients from over 10 countries and regions including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Japan, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, etc. to purchase high-quality energy and chemical products, and carry out cooperation in scientific and technological research and development, production digitization, etc., with a total purchase of more than 11 billion US dollars. The company has reached cooperation with various large international energy and chemical companies including Saudi Aramco, Kuwait Petroleum, Vitol, Mitsui & Co., Glencore, ADNOC, PETRONAS, Kao, etc. The purchased commodities include high-quality crude oil, coal, methanol and other energy and chemical products. By strengthening cooperation with oil companies in major oil-producing countries and international energy and chemical companies globally, Sinochem Holdings will further enhance its overseas energy acquisition capabilities and expand channels, ensure the stability of imported resources in the energy and chemical fields, improve the ability of various industries in China to acquire upstream resources, and maintain the stability of the industrial chain and supply chain.
On the “sell” side, as an enterprise with global layout and international operation, Sinochem Holdings proactively organizes its overseas subsidiaries to display world-class products and technologies at CIIE China. Four overseas subsidiaries - Syngenta, Adisseo, Elkem and KraussMaffei have participated. While overseas enterprises are actively integrating into the Chinese market and seizing opportunities in China, they will also spur Chinese enterprises to enhance their technological innovation capabilities and facilitate industrial transformation and upgrading. At this year’s CIIE, Sinochem Holdings’ overseas subsidiaries have signed a number of supply and cooperation agreements with domestic customers, with total sales exceeding US$1.6 billion.
This year is the fifth yearfor Sinochem Holdings in CIIE. Over the past five years, the company has made continuous breakthroughs in procurement amount, procurement scope, cooperative clients, and cooperation fields. The business “circle of friends” and industrial “ecological circle” have become larger, and the purchased products have become increasingly digital and low-carbon.
